Dr John Stedman Biography

Dr John Stedman is Chief Executive of NISE. He joined the company when it was first established in 2004 and was appointed to his present position in 2007. A ‘hands-on’ CEO his operational responsibilities include acting as first point of contact for business development opportunities both in the UK and internationally.

John has a wealth of experience in innovation management and is keen to stress the importance of aspects of the work that can sometimes be overlooked. The development of new and better tools and services is vital to the NHS and NISE’s track record in nurturing and developing innovations is first class. Equally important, however, is ensuring that healthcare organisations are ‘innovation-friendly’ and have the right structures and systems in place to recognise and encourage innovation in- house and to adopt and exploit successful innovations from elsewhere.

Over the past eleven years, John has worked with a wide range of NHS and commercial healthcare organisations to plan and implement bespoke Innovation Strategies designed to ensure that they maximise the benefits of all the financial and efficiency- gains that innovation offers.

The past twenty years, John says, have been a time of constant change for the NHS and the health innovation landscape today is arguably more challenging than ever before. The one constant throughout that time has been the crucial importance of innovation to building and maintaining a sustainable, world-class NHS.
